Our Team

We bring different perspectives to the table, but we’re united by a love for purposeful work, thoughtful design, and real connection.

Reece Evans - Certified Flight Instructor

Reece, originally from Eastern Kentucky, moved to Bowling Green after graduating from the University of Kentucky. She discovered her passion for aviation in 2020 after receiving a discovery flight as her high school graduation present—an experience that quickly turned into a lifelong pursuit of flight. Reece holds her Commercial Pilot Certificate with Instrument and Multi-Engine ratings and is a Certified Flight Instructor (CFI).

Outside of aviation, she stays grounded by spending time with her husband, her dog Archie, and the family and friends who have supported her throughout her journey.

As an instructor, Reece’s favorite part of flying is watching students overcome their fears and realize they are capable of achieving their dream of flight. As a female pilot, she enjoys encouraging others—especially women—that there is a place for them in aviation. Reece’s goal is to inspire the next generation of pilots to pursue the skies.

Katherine Sofield - Certified Flight Instructor / Advanced Ground Instructor

Katherine began instructing in 2000 and has had the privilege of teaching in Texas, Missouri, Florida, North Carolina, and now Kentucky. She enjoys working with students of all ages and often draws on each student’s personal experiences as a foundation for teaching aviation.

Katherine’s goal is to continue moving laterally within aviation, and she hopes to add gliders, balloons, and other unique aircraft to her logbook.

Flying never gets old for her. She appreciates how small the world, and its worries; can seem when aiming toward the heavens. For Katherine, flying feels like a way of connecting with the world by stepping back, taking in the bigger picture, and enjoying the view.

Bryson Bryant - Certified Flight Instructor / Instrument Instructor

Bryson, a native from Whitley City, Kentucky, graduated from Eastern Kentucky University in 2023 with a Bachelor of Science in Aviation and earned his CFI in 2025.

Before becoming a flight instructor, he spent 2½ years working as an educator with the McCreary County School District, teaching across multiple grade levels. That experience strengthened his ability to break down complex concepts and adapt his instruction to each student’s learning style.

Bryson’s flight experience outside of instruction includes banner towing and scenic tour operations, providing valuable real-world operational experience. He also has experience operating tailwheel, high-performance, complex, and high-altitude aircraft, further broadening his technical proficiency and systems knowledge. In addition, he works with the aviation nonprofit organization Props For A Purpose, supporting efforts that use aviation to serve communities. In December 2025, he was commissioned as a Kentucky Colonel in recognition of his service and contributions to the Commonwealth. As he continues building experience, Bryson’s long-term goal is to fly for Delta Air Lines, carrying forward the same professionalism, discipline, and commitment to excellence that define his work as an instructor.

Colton Gregory - Certified Flight Instructor / Instrument Instructor / Multi-Engine Instructor

Colton began his professional aviation journey after attending Airline Transport Professionals Flight School in 2021. Since November of that year, he has held certifications as a flight instructor in both single‑ and multi‑engine aircraft, along with instrument rating instruction. He currently flies corporate aircraft full time for a business based in Bowling Green KY, combining technical proficiency with a strong commitment to professionalism. Alongside his corporate flying career, Colton continues to instruct as a passion-driven pursuit, valuing the opportunity to shape and inspire the next generation of aviators.

Away from aviation, Colton is a devoted husband and father who values time spent with family. He enjoys hands‑on work such as woodworking, restoring and maintaining tractors, and spending time outdoors. Antiquing is a shared family passion, and he is a co‑owner—alongside his wife—of an antique business that reflects their appreciation for craftsmanship, history, and detail.

Colton is deeply motivated by leadership and personal initiative, both in and out of the aircraft. He believes good decision‑making starts with preparation, humility, and an understanding that aviation is deeply influenced by forces beyond our control. With a strong respect for weather, environment, and risk management, Colton approaches flying as a responsibility—not just a skill—and views every flight as a privilege earned through discipline and care.

Sam Blackwell - Certified Flight Instructor

Sam grew up just south in Franklin, Kentucky. He graduated from University of Alabama in Huntsville in 2022 with a Bachelor of Science in Aerospace Engineering. After graduating, he moved back home to begin his aviation career with Flywell Aviation.

Over the years, Sam has flown nearly every day, amassing more than 1,000 flight hours. Most of his experience comes from flying both the training aircraft at Flywell and his personal plane.

Outside of aviation, Sam enjoys backpacking with his friends and his dad. He has visited 28 National Parks and hopes to explore them all one day. Drawing on his engineering background, he aims to provide thorough technical analysis while translating complex concepts into a way that is easy for students to understand.

Miles Johnson - Certified Flight Instructor / Instrument Instructor

Miles has been a Certified Flight Instructor since 2024 and has quickly become a key asset to Flywell Aviation. He has played an instrumental role in developing new pilots and mentoring future instructors, consistently bringing a high level of professionalism and dedication to every lesson.

Known for his strong work ethic and unwavering commitment to safety, Miles sets a standard that students respect and strive to emulate. His ability to break down complex concepts into clear, practical instruction has helped many pilots build both confidence and skill in the cockpit.

In addition to primary training, Miles has a passion for flying tailwheel aircraft and specializes in high-performance training. His enthusiasm for these more advanced aspects of aviation adds depth to his instruction and provides students with valuable experience beyond the basics.
